Durring the struggle a cop strolls around the back of Dilan and sprays me from my side after I lashed Dilan for having no honor. I guess the cop wanted to show me what honor feels like.

The blackness at the end is me putting the camera in my pocket, but you can hear the screams for medics to assist the victims.

Occupy Delaware members protest the recent foreclosure settlement at the February 14th, 2012 NCC Sheriff Sale in Wilmington, DE.

Participants also passed out homemade Valentine’s Day Cards with Delaware foreclosure facts on them to the Sheriff Sale audience and officials after reading their statement and mic check.

This statement was read (and mic checked) by members of Occupy Delaware at the February 14, 2012 NCC Sheriff Sale in Wilmington, DE as part of Occupy Delaware’s continued commitment to protesting the current state of the foreclosure crisis in Delaware as well as nationally. The General Assembly of Occupy Delaware has voted on calling for a foreclosure moratorium.

We are members of Occupy Delaware. We are using this venue as our public forum to address our disappointment with the recent mortgage foreclosure settlement between the states, the federal government and national mortgage banks.

To all our elected and appointed officials, including Sheriff Navarro, AG Biden, Governor Markell, Secretary Donovan & President Obama.

While we are happy that there may be some Americans who will helped by this settlement, we are concerned that it is only window dressing and that there are some real flaws with it, including: This deal does not go far enough. $25 billion is a “drop in the ocean” “given that close to 11 million borrowers are underwater on their loans to the tune of $700 billion.” That means this deal only addresses 2.4% of the total negative equity effecting borrowers in this country. 1 Only $5 billion will come from the banks, the rest is our money. The mortgage principal write-downs will come from secularized loans, which means from investors, which in turn means taxpayers via Fannie and Freddie, pension funds, insurers, and 401 (k)s. This deal actually helps the banks get credit for loans that they’ve already written off! 2 It does not address the 80% of mortgages that are through Fannie and Freddy. 3 The $1500 — $2000 to be given to homeowners who have already lost their homes is an insult and the argument that this settlement does not impede those homeowners from taking the banks to court is laughable. How can a family forced to move in with other family members afford a lawyer to sue one of the biggest banks in the world? Not mention what about states who will be using the money they receive to balance their budgets instead of helping these families, as in the case of Wisconsin4? We call for AG Biden to use the $8.3 million going directly to HIS office to fund grass roots organizations to fulfill the consumer education & outreach components of his mediation program. Mr. Biden’s program is based on the successful Philly model and their program included the grass roots component—that’s why it worked. 5 This deal could actually speed up foreclosures as banks rush forward on foreclosures they had been sitting on because they used robo-signing to process them.

Finally, this deal is not even a slap on the wrist and will not act as a deterrent to keep these banks from defrauding the American people and potentially collapsing the world economy again.

We, the people, must remain vigilant in demanding that the banks who caused this crisis are held accountable for their malfeasance and fraud. We ARE paying attention and we will not remain silent.

An average-ish day/night at the Occupy Regina camp in November, 2011, while it was at it’s height. We lasted a while month, from Oct 15 to November 16 before it was finally torn down, like other camps across canada in total uniformity. Prior to the shut down, we had a very positive and cooperative relationship with the police, including a “drug and alcohol free” policy in the park. As result, we were able to keep the part of downtown we were in safer than it’s been in decades.
